O’Neill to Host SEPTA Event to Help Seniors Get Free Key Cards
7/26/2017
WARMINSTER — Rep. Bernie O’Neill (R-Bucks) invites seniors of the 29th District who wish to sign up for SEPTA’s Senior ID Key Card program to his upcoming Key Card event on Thursday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology, located at 2740 York Road, Jamison.

“SEPTA is transitioning to a cashless SEPTA Key fare program,” O’Neill said. “My staff and representatives from SEPTA will be available to help seniors apply for a special card and have their photos taken without having to travel to a SEPTA sales location.”

Under SEPTA’s new fare payment and collection system, called SEPTA Keys, seniors ages 65 and older will continue to ride free at all times on all SEPTA transit services, including buses, trolleys, the Market-Frankford Line, the Broad Street Line and the Norristown High Speed Line. Regional Rail fares for seniors will continue to be $1 for rides within Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania seniors who possess state-issued photo IDs are automatically eligible to participate in SEPTA’s Seniors Ride Free Program. There is nothing to sign up for, and driver’s licenses or state-issued IDs can be swiped at the turnstile or onboard a vehicle.

However, seniors who do not want to use their driver’s license can register and have their picture taken for the new, free SEPTA Key Senior ID card.

Residents interested in attending the SEPTA Senior ID Key Card event are asked to call 215- 441-2624 to make an appointment. Seniors are asked to bring a valid state-issued driver’s license or photo ID card to their appointment.

Also during O’Neill’s SEPTA Senior ID Key Card event, the PA Office of Attorney General will present seniors with information about scams targeting seniors, and tips to avoid fraud.

“The purpose of this presentation is to encourage seniors to be cautious and to educate them about the types of scams that con artists perpetrate so that they can avoid having their identity stolen or losing their life savings,” O’Neill said.
