The deadline to apply for the Federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program is nearing, Rep. Bernie O’Neill (R-Bucks) announced today.
The AFG program, which is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, is open to both volunteer and paid fire and ambulance companies and will stop accepting applications after the Wednesday, May 20, deadline.
Nationally, the AFG awards, which will be distributed in phases, will ultimately provide approximately $510 million to fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations throughout the country. AFG awards aim to enhance response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public with respect to fire and other hazards.
Fire departments that have questions regarding this grant opportunity should contact the program’s Help Desk at 1-866-274-0960 or e-mail
firegrants@dhs.gov. During the application period, Help Desk hours will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday.
More information, application materials and a Web-based tutorial on the application process are also available online through O’Neill’s Web site at
