Rep. O'Neill Comments on House Passage of His Bill to Ensure Payments to Ambulance Services - 11/3/2011
Legislation that would require insurance providers to directly compensate ambulance companies for their services has been passed by the Pennsylvania House. Under current law, insurance benefits are paid to the insured individual and may never be remitted to EMS companies. Rep. Bernie O’Neill (R-Bucks) said House Bill 1344 will close that loophole and allow ambulance services to concentrate their efforts on helping people rather than focusing on debt collection. House Lawmakers are raising concern over the Rendell administration’s plan to impose a new series of graduation exams for Pennsylvania high school students without legislative approval. Republican members of the Education and Policy Committees held a hearing on the Keystone Exams proposal and questioned administration officials about the necessity of implementing additional exams and how much this new testing mandate would cost taxpayers.
